Science - Body Systems

All Systems Go

Read this Background Information:

The main point of this lesson is to understand that there are different systems within the human body and that these systems work independently and together to form a functioning human body. Your body’s organs can’t do their jobs on their own. Everything that one organ does directly affects at least some other organs. And every organ depends on other organs to help do its job.

You might not give much thought to how your body operates throughout the day. For instance, 206 bones make up the skeletal system that holds us up. Tendons, ligaments, and muscles are part of the muscular system that helps us move around. Body systems, including the digestive, skeletal, respiratory, circulatory, and nervous systems work together. For instance, your stomach, part of the digestive system, sends messages to your brain, part of the nervous system, when your body is hungry. Respiratory and circulatory systems work together to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the entire body. There are different systems within the human body and these systems work independently and together to form a functioning human body.

DIRECTIONS

By doing this online activity, you can learn more about how your organs work together to make up different systems in your body.

The goal of this activity is to drag the correct organs of the body system (that appear in the box on the right) into Arnold's body. If an incorrect organ is placed into the body, all of the organs will move out of Arnold and you will have to start over for that system.

The Activity You may need to click to enable Adobe Flash.  That's ok, do it...I wonder who won't have read the instructions and will ask me whether they should click the OK...?

QUESTIONS

When you have finished the activity please answer these questions using CSAs and COPS on the blog.  If you cant' figure out the answer, use the search engine KIDDLE. Remember to use key words from the question.

  1. What body system helps humans turn the food they eat into energy?
  2. What body system helps humans breathe?
  3. What body system controls other body systems?
  4. What body system provides structure for the body?
  5. What body system allows us to move?
  6. What body system includes a transport system (blood) and a pump (the heart) that keeps the transport system moving?
  7. Can you think of two body systems that work together?
  8. What part of the nervous system is essential for it to work properly?
  9. What event could disrupt one or more body systems?
  10. What parts of the respiratory system would need to be blocked to not allow any air into this system?

Math - Area, Perimeter, Volume

G6 Students you will do three quick multiple choice quizzes to review perimeter, area and volume.  .

When you have finished, please post your score on each quiz and record the one question/idea that you struggled the most with and post as a comment.  COPS/CSA please.
